Mint 1940's Altec Amps

I am so sorry, long day. Yes they are RCA.

They pushed 2 giant Altec multicell horns. And a mix Of 2 Altec W bins, and 2 RCA bins. The multicell horns are still in the basement of the building and 2 RCA 12's survive, the W bins were 15ft across and dissapeared. The altec 15's disapeared.

I got the RCA amps and no one has ever been able to get me any info on them. So I had them serviced by Ed Heuther who primarily rebuilds pre WW2 radios for a living. He had never seen these, but loved them. The closest I ever got to an answer was from Ted Uzzle a Columbia College Prof who worked for RCA and Altec I believe. His RCA literature only had the models after mine, pointing to a 1943 vintage.

Anyone point me in the right direction?

These amps have no protection circuit so when not in use, the final output tubes are removed so we dont have any accidents or usage by my roomies. Ps these drive my Large Advents 1974/ over Large Advents 1967. Lots of fun.

Part of a photophone system. You can find some info in the Film Tech library. Look for a "PG-*** " number on your units, or read the various PG system manuals till you find the right combination of "MI-xxxx" numbers.

Weird- MI is normally an RCA item.


The booth monitor amp has little value would be my guess, the others? Pics would help. Steve prolly knows a lot more about these I'm sure he'll be by soon.

I may have some RCA service literature on your amps. If you write to me at stfrsc^AT^juno^DOT^com I will see what I have and send you scans of anything I find.

I believe your pieces are 1940s or perhaps early 1950s vintage. They sell for good money on ebay; a good way to check is to search "RCA MI", including completed auctions.

It pays to go over the schematic if you get one. Sometimes these old theatre amps contain circuits that roll off the highs and/or lows; these can be disabled for hi fi use.
